As long as you have Plink set up on your PC, you don't have to install anything else. You can just save the WandS files in a custom location on the disk and click the .exe to launch the app. It's also possible to copy it to an external removable device to run it on any PC with minimum effort. It doesn't alter Windows registry settings.
As far as the interface goes, the program adopts a normal-looking window with a clear-cut structure that loads a few sample servers at launch to help you get started.
You can create new groups with custom names and locations, as well as fill them with multiple hosts by specifying the host name, IP and MAC address, operating system, owner, group, description, and profile (SSH Linux, SSH OpenBSD or SMB Windows).
It's possible to wake up or shut down one or more selected hosts, copy or move them to other groups, edit their properties, as well as remove their entries from the list. Data can be backed up to file and later restored.
Furthermore, you can put together new shutdown profiles with SMB or SSH protocols and login credentials, ask the tool to log all events for examination, run at every Windows startup until further notice, and so on.
We haven't come across any stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that WandS didn't hang, crash or prompt error messages. It had a good response time and minimal impact on system performance, using low CPU and RAM.
All in all, WandS provides webmasters with fast and approachable tools for waking up and shutting down hosts via the SSH or SMB protocol, backed by practical configuration settings.
