Policy Highlights is a cross-browser extension that (as its name suggests) can highlight important keywords from privacy policies, terms of services, cookie policies, disclaimer policies, legal pages, GDPR pages, and other similar texts. When activated, words such as “email”, “contract”, “collect”, “agree” and many others will be displayed with a yellow highlight on the specific pages, but also in some pop-up privacy agreement pages.
But that’s not the extension’s biggest strength. Whenever you hover over one highlighted word, you’ll get an explanation as to why it’s important to pay attention to this word and, implicitly, to the phrase surrounding it. You’ll not only take a closer a look at the agreements, but also get used to their structures and their requests.
Well, to be fair, on some pages it needs a refresh in order to work, while on others it may take a while to load. Also, as I’ve already suggested, not all privacy pop-ups are affected by the extension. Nevertheless, Policy Highlights does its job admirably, and is a browser add-on that everyone who cares about their online privacy should use.
