The modern Iranian calendar, also known as Solar Hijri calendar, is the official calendar in Iran and Afghanistan. It begins on the vernal equinox as determined by astronomical calculations for the Iran Standard Time meridian, which is usually around the 21st of March in the Gregorian calendar. The years are designated AP (Anno Persico) and can be calculated by subtracting 621 or 622 from the Gregorian one, depending on the time of year.
