It's also possible to save it to a removable storage unit to directly run it on any PC effortlessly. Unlike most installers, it doesn't change Windows registry settings.
As far as the interface is concerned, the utility adopts a common-looking window with a well-structured layout that invites you to create a new HDR image from a set of JPEG, RAW or TIFF files (8 bit or 16 bit).
The tool automatically finds relevant EXIF tags wherever they exist. Else, you can manually insert the exposure or stop difference values, or ask Qtpfsgui to do this automatically for images with shutter speed and aperture values.
All images can be automatically aligned. You can zoom in and out of the preview, crop pictures, enable anti-ghosting by adding or removing a mask and by adjusting the size and strength, as well as tweak the shift values.
Several predefined output HDR profiles contain specific weighting functions, response curves, and HDR creation models. Alternatively, you can opt for a custom configuration if you're not satisfied with the results.
It's possible to change the mapping mode, analyze the histogram, tonemap the HDR image, set the result size and adjust the color levels, rotate or resize the picture, perform projective transformations between polar, angular, cylindrical and mirror ball mode, copy EXIF data from one file to another, or carry out tone mapping tasks for multiple files in bulk.
When it comes to program options, you can modify the default cache directory, choose the number of CPU cores, switch to another UI language, input command-line parameters for importing RAW pictures and aligning photos, or customize negative numbers color.
The software tool ran smoothly in our tests, without triggering the OS to hang, crash or display error messages. Unsurprisingly, it had minimal impact on computer performance, using low CPU and RAM.
To conclude, Qtpfsgui Serial brings to the table a solid set of options for processing HDR images, especially when taking into account the fact that it's freeware.
