MPEG2 files can usually be played directly within the PyKaraoke Serial framework. Other file formats like AVI or QuickTime, or files which use more exotic codecs like XviD, can also be handled by PyKaraoke Serial, but it will require an external program.
This is a little less tightly integrated, but it does work, and allows you to pick all your karaoke songs from one database.
