The app's packed in a single executable file that can be saved to a custom location on the disk and just double-clicked to launch Shims Color Picker. Another option is to keep it stored on a USB flash drive to directly run it on any computer.
Just keep in mind that it requires you to install .NET Framework, otherwise it won't work. No changes are made to the Windows registry, however. Plus, it doesn't create files on the disk without your permission.
Regarding the interface, it adopts a basic window that reveals the color wheel, along with the RGB, hexadecimal and HTML codes for any selected color. All you have to do is click a color to view its corresponding codes, which can be separately selected and copied to the Clipboard.
Unlike other color pickers, this utility doesn't give you the possibility to select any color from the screen to obtain its codes. On top of that, you cannot fine-tune the selected color in the color wheel, such as dragging the mouse or moving a slider.
We haven't come across any stability problems in our tests, as the application didn't freeze, crash or indicate errors. As we expected, it left a small footprint on system resources, thanks to the fact that it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. Too bad that Shims Color Pick doesn't support additional features, though.
