The key feature of the software application is that it's capable of producing 10,000 strings of random characters at the same time. Plus, the operation is performed quickly and requires minimal configuration on your behalf.
There is no installation necessary, so you can double-click the .exe file as soon as it's downloaded, in order to reach the main app window right away. Since it's portable, you can keep Generate Random Characters stored in your collection of no-setup tools and fire it up whenever you need to come up with random strings of characters.
As far as the interface goes, the utility has a plain-looking window with a simplistic structure, where you can spot a set of five radio buttons matching uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and digits.
The point of them is to set the type of character for each position within the strings. The program can create strings of up to five characters but you have to give it a helping hand with the character type. For example, if you tick the first three buttons matching uppercase letters, then it will create 10,000 distinct entries of exactly three characters, all being uppercase letters.
However, if you tick the first button for uppercase letters, the second and third button next to lowercase letters, as well as the fourth and fifth button for digits, then it will create 10,000 rows with strings made of exactly five characters, where the first character is always an uppercase letter, the second and third are always lowercase, while the fourth and fifth are always numbers.
Feel free to experiment with various combinations to figure out how the tool works. The output is not shown in the main window but automatically saved to a new file in the same directory as Generate Random Characters Serial. Keep in mind that this file is immediately updated with new strings for every operation, so you are not asked for confirmation before the overwrite happens.
